Kissing customs vary from country to country. Generally, kissing in public or kissing as a greeting are more natural in the Occident. As an example, I could see a man and woman who were kissing in public, when I went to Europe for a few days. Even though kissing in public represent their love or freedom of expression or whatever, it was quite awkward for me, since I've never seen it before. And I had no experience of kissing as a greeting, so if I had a chance to kiss with foreigner as a greeting, I felt that it was really awkward as well.

So, before you give a kiss to someone as a greeting, you should know where he/she is from. And before you kiss in public, you should consider where you are now.
